Independant Reading Questions

1. I chose this novel because it was recommended to me by a very good friend. I'm incredibly pleased with my choice because it was and amazing book.

2. The author's 'Hook' was a girl my age being sent to a reform school.

3. I know that the author has an amazing imagination and knows alot about classic literature.

4. Miranda Tate is a thoughtful, ambitious and courageous girl, though a little disturbed. Her parents are divorced and she has had three stepmothers. She attends Bard Academy and has three best friends, Hana, Samir and Blade. She comes across Bard's biggest secret and must keep it to herself.

5. The main conflict revolves around Emily Bronte, an unstable author from the eighteen hundreds. She messes around with the characters from different books and their authors, which may bring on an apocalypse.

6. I like Miranda Tate's characterf because she's witty and fun. I can't relate to her because I have never totaled a car or charged a thousand dollars to my stepmother's credit card.

7. Miranda Tate pretty much takes care of the conflict when she sucks Emily Bronte back into her book.

8. The outcome would obviously be that Miranda, Samir, Hana and Blade defeat Emily Bronte and Dracula and save their teachers. This is the final outcome.

9. The setting is important to this story because if it was set before the twenty first century, the authors that are talked about in the book may still be alive, which would ruin the plot.

10. This novel is not autobiographical. There are many differences between the author and Miranda Tate. The author was born in Mesquite, Texas, while Miranda has lived in Maine all her life. The author is Japanese-American while Miranda is completely American. There are no parallels between the author and the protagonist.

11. The protaganist is very witty. She has amazing jokes. Miranda is also very inquisitive. She needs to know what's happening at all times and will stop at nothing to find out. Miranda is very confident and doesn't let anything or anyone bother her.

12. Blade is Miranda's roommate. She is an emo-goth who decorated her side of the room with posters of Satan and skull-shaped candles. This character adds personality into the novel because Miranda is the exact opposite of Blade and their personalities collide, causing a comic effect.
